Villa Gioianna is located on a hill overlooking
Lake Trasimeno, on the western edge of
Umbria and a stone's throw from
Tuscany. The medieval town of Castiglione del Lago, the nearest market town, has shops, services and easy transportation links to sights in
Tuscany and
Umbria. From Castiglione you can easily access the superstrada linking Perugia and eastern
Umbria to Siena, Cortona, Chianti and western
Tuscany and ferry out to the lake islands. Nearby are the Etruscan town of Chiusi and its excellent train connections to many destinations, including Rome, Florence and Orvieto. Within an hour's drive are many historic and art-filled Umbrian and Tuscan hill towns, such as Assisi, Arezzo, Montepulciano, Pienza, Perugia, Deruta, Spello, Gubbio, Todi and Montalcino, as well as many less well-known, but equally charming, smaller villages. The area abounds in wineries, spas, restaurants, outdoor activities, markets, festivals and shopping opportunities, many reachable by bicycle.
